November 2008 - Nigeria
Following the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) of two (2) General Electric 300 megawatt steam turbines in Schenectady, USA, by the project Client and Consultant, Rockson Engineering is pleased to announce their safe arrival in Nigeria.
Both 300 megawatt steam turbines arrived on the same ship at Onne Port, Rivers State on 4th July 2008. All their parts have already been delivered to the Alaoji project site using Rockson’s specialist Goldhofer heavy lift equipment, with the exception of two (2) turbine shells which weigh over 200 tons each. The shells, now being stored at Onne Port, cannot be delivered to site due to the restricted weight limit of the Imo River Bridge.
Rockson has been waiting for the Government to strengthen the Imo River Bridge or to arrange for construction of a by-pass (ramp with jetty) for two years now and this has delayed the project completion.
The four (4) General Electric Frame 9E Gas Turbines are also held at Onne Port due to the same reason. The Government must resolve the issue of crossing the Imo River, which is outside Rockson’s scope of work, to actualize the Alaoji Power Plant project.
