From world technology giant, Hyundai, has come an endorsement for Nigerian ingenuity in engineering. According to the Korean engineering company, given the necessary incentives, Nigerian engineers could perform wonders.
President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hyundai Engineering Company Ltd, Mr. J. K. Kim, gave the commendation on Tuesday after inspecting the Omoku Gas Turbine station handled by a Nigerian firm, Rockson Engineering Company Ltd, based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
"I must confess that I was very impressed with the quality of job done at Omoku. It is world-class by any standard. We are also involved in power projects in other African countries like Libya and Madagascar and work with local partners. I must say that none compares to the quality of job I saw at Omoku done by Rockson Engineering. I'm impressed by the energy of the workers,” Kim said at the signing ceremony of an agreement of collaboration with Rockson Engineering at Novotel, Port Harcourt.
Under the agreement, Hyundai will collaborate with Rockson Engineering on three of the Independent Power Project (IPP) being undertaken in the Niger Delta under the accelerated power generation initiative of the Federal Government.
The plants are to be sited at Alaoji, Egbema and Omoku (the present one is to be upgraded). Omoku, a power plant funded and owned by Rivers State government, was initiated by the Peter Odili administration and commissioned last December by the then president, Chief Olusegun Obasango. It accounts largely for the power now being consumed in Port Harcourt and environs.
The Hyundai boss flew into the country on Monday together with other senior officials of the group, including the vice president of the company, Mr. Jung Jae Hih.
